Stormy Day Mysteries (Books 1-5)

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

After finishing the very long (like 17 books long) Wisteria Witches series, I was officially all “witched” out. So when I started the Stormy Day Mysteries, it was a welcome change to have a non-magical storyline.

Stormy returns to Misty Falls, stumbles into a murder (as one does), and by the end of Book 1 basically finds her new calling as a private investigator. Small town. Recurring characters. Cozy chaos. You know the vibe.

Here’s my full breakdown:

❄️ 1 – Death of a Dapper Snowman
Still such a strong opener. My favorite at the time (until Book 5 came along). A great introduction to Stormy, Logan, Finnegan, Jessica, Jeffrey, and the rest of the cast. It had charm, intrigue, and just enough suspicion to hook me.

🧶 2 – Death of a Crafty Knitter
The most predictable of the series for me. Stormy tries to lead us down rabbit holes, but I’m pretty sure we all knew who the killer was the moment they showed up. I also struggled with the idea that a small town would just casually accept Stormy starting a knitting club without assuming she had an ulterior motive. Especially with her reputation.

🦇 3 – Death of a Batty Genius
Really liked this one. Stormy and her ex (Christopher) mending fences felt mature and realistic. Not every relationship has to end in flames. Everyone had motive, which kept me guessing. I was genuinely nervous in the beginning when Jessica and Stormy’s ex get dosed with something — I was hoping the inevitable murder wouldn’t hit that close to home.

👑 4 – Death of a Modern King
I took a break before this one to earn some Audible credits and had to reacclimate to the cast. It’s a bit convoluted in that classic cozy way — chaotic middle, tidy ending. Not my top favorite, but still satisfying when it wrapped up.

🍟 5 – Death of a Double Dipper
Okay. This one is now my favorite in the series.
I genuinely thought nearly everyone was the murderer. Every time I settled on a suspect, something shifted.
Learning about Mikey’s secret habit sent me spiraling into a full-blown theory. I was convinced he’d seen Trigger or Quinn in one of his magazines and was blackmailing someone. I had built an entire conspiracy in my head… and I was wrong.

The finale reveal felt earned. Not rushed. Not random. Just a solid, satisfying cozy reveal. But with lots of violence, fear, and blood.

Now let’s talk about Logan.
I have tried to be patient with him. But I detested him in this book (and honestly, the last one too). I understand being distant. I understand processing things. But he was continually cold. At some point it stops being “emotionally complicated” and just becomes unpleasant.

And Stormy? Smart girl. Big brain. She needs new friends. Immediately. The energy around her is negative in a way that isn’t always charming.

🎧 Narration thoughts:
I love Tiffany Williams as Stormy and Finnegan. She nails their tone. But Logan sounds like a frat boy. Jessica sometimes gives full valley girl energy. And some of the male voices are unnecessarily deep and borderline creepy (Colt in particular). It’s… a choice.

✨ Final thoughts:
I’d love more Finnegan Day backstory. I would absolutely read a prequel series about him solving cases. His flirtations with younger women are a little amusing… and a little creepy. Both can be true.

And can we bring Stormy’s sister Sunny into the fold? I want to see that dynamic.

Overall, this series reminded me why I stick with cozies. Familiar characters. Small-town drama. Suspicion everywhere. And no matter how chaotic it gets, everything ties up neatly with a bow in the end.

Have you ever been completely wrong about the killer and built an entire alternate plot in your head… or is that just me? 😅
