Her Last Christmas
by Claire McGowan
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I promise I won’t only post 5-star reviews… I’ve just REALLY loved everything I’ve read lately.
I usually live in cozy mystery land, but I decided to dip my toe into thriller territory. I asked for recommendations and got… crickets. So I wandered into the Audible Plus catalog and landed on this one because of the strong reviews.
And wow.
This book absolutely screams “turn me into a movie.” The writing, the pacing, the atmosphere, that twist at the end. I would 100% watch this adaptation. The whole time I pictured someone like Maisie Williams or Ella Purnell in the role of Emma.
I could not turn this audiobook off. Truly. Everyone was a suspect in my mind. The housekeeping staff. Michael. Michael’s terrible friends. Even Emma herself. I trusted no one.
The imagery was so strong I could see everything unfolding like a film. The narration matched the intensity perfectly. The ending wasn’t wildly shocking, but there were so many directions it could have gone. I appreciated where it landed and I’m still hoping for a little more justice somewhere down the line.
Thriller girl era? Maybe.
Looking forward to trying out some more books by McGowan.
