A fun, mystery-filled read with an intriguing premise, superb narration, and a satisfying ending, even if the romance and comedy didn’t quite deliver!
I went into “Her Life in Ruins” expecting a rom-com, but what I got was much more mystery than romance or comedy. And honestly, I was perfectly happy with that!
I loved everything surrounding the missing artifact/vase, the details of Catherine’s dissertation, and Catherine herself! Her wilder, sex-forward personality was refreshing, and I enjoyed following her adventure. That said, I do think the story ran a little longer than necessary.
Now, let’s talk about Nick. UGH. I just couldn’t get behind the romance because, frankly, I thought he was a jerk! If a man tells me I’m “screwed up,” you can bet I’m not going to be pining after him. And unfortunately, the “com” portion of this supposed rom-com didn’t quite land for me either.
BUT! The ending? I loved it! Everything came together beautifully, and I thought the resolution was incredibly well done. It definitely left me feeling satisfied with the overall story.
Allyson Morgan’s narration was superb! She brought Catherine’s personality to life and made the mystery especially enjoyable to follow. Her performance was easily one of the highlights of my listening experience.
