It took me a while to really get into this one, but Chapters 20โ€“34 had me hooked. Everything before and after that stretch, though, was a bit of a struggle for me.

I really liked both main characters, and Maxine Mitchell and Anthony Palmini delivered solid performances. That said, I think this is one I may have enjoyed more in print than on audio. Some of the humor didn’t land for me in the narration.

In this book, the spicy scenes felt more like they were included because they were expected rather than because they moved the story or deepened the characters. I kept wanting those moments to reveal something new about them… maybe I just missed it. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ Distracted by lollipops or something.

The story itself was the strongest part for me. The stakes stayed high, the romance kept me invested, and there was a clear setup for Book 2 that definitely has me curious. I’ll absolutely be adding the next installment to my TBR, but I don’t think it’ll be an immediate read.

And Oakley… girl. Telling your best friend everything? That was a poor choice. ๐Ÿ˜‚
