A cute concept and an interesting take on love at first sight, but the characters and immersive audio never completely clicked for me.

I’m still not entirely sure how I feel about “Love at First Psych.” I’ve listened to other Audible Originals with immersive sound and full-cast productions and really enjoyed them, but this one was harder for me to settle into. Instead of pulling me further into the story, the production sometimes made it more difficult to connect with what was happening.

And unfortunately, I didn’t really connect with the characters either. Marigold has A LOT of opinions and can come across as pretty negative, while Robbie gave me major annoying-little-brother vibes rather than the golden-boy charm I think I was supposed to see.

I did really appreciate the reversal of expectations between them. Robbie is the hopeless romantic who believes in love at first sight, while Marigold is the cynic. Their psychology assignment exploring whether love at first sight actually exists was a fun premise, even if it felt incredibly subjective and, honestly, I’m not sure they ever got much of an answer from anyone. 😂

Santino Fontana, Stephanie Einstein, and the full cast definitely committed to making this feel more like an audio production than a traditional audiobook. While I can appreciate the creativity and performances, the immersive format just wasn’t for me this time around.

Still, I’m glad these two managed to find each other in the end. Maybe the real answer to their assignment was themselves all along. ❤️
