It Looks Like You in the Dark

An intriguing blend of Alaskan Native folklore, environmental conflict, and community that ultimately felt more YA mystery than horror.

I really enjoyed the premise of “It Looks Like You in the Dark,” especially the way it explores what happens when outsiders enter a land without respect for its people, culture, or history. In all honesty, it sort of felt like a YA, Alaskan “Erin Brockovich”—a concept I was completely on board with—but the horror elements never quite landed for me.

Tapeesa was a character I genuinely cared about, and I loved the friendships at the heart of the story. Watching her loyal core four stand beside her through everything was easily one of my favorite parts.

Zorga Qaunaq’s narration was also a highlight. Her performance brought a natural authenticity to Tapeesa and the story, and I’d absolutely listen to her again—especially in a crime drama or mystery.
