Some books entertain you, while others make you feel everything. “The Truth About Isha” was definitely the latter! Between Soneela Nankani’s wonderful narration and a story that had me completely invested, this was such an emotional and rewarding listen.
This book tackles several difficult topics, with mental health being one of the most prevalent. It’s truly an “all the feels” kind of story. I found myself feeling sad, hopeful, happy, and even laughing at different moments. I appreciated how the heavier subject matter was balanced with moments of humor and warmth, making the characters and their experiences feel that much more authentic.
I really enjoyed both Alya and Isha, but for very different reasons. Alya’s insecurities, constant second-guessing, and emotional vulnerability made her incredibly relatable. She isn’t a perfect character, and I appreciated that about her. Isha, on the other hand, brought some much-needed comedic relief! Her appearances added a welcome lightness to an otherwise emotionally heavy story.
And can we talk about Soneela Nankani? I absolutely adore her narration, and this audiobook was another reminder of why. She has such a wonderful ability to bring emotional depth to her characters while making the lighter moments feel just as natural. Her performance made it easy to become completely immersed in Alya and Isha’s world.
Without giving away any spoilers, I’ll say that the ending left me with a few lingering questions. Perhaps those are intentionally left to our imaginations, but I couldn’t help wanting just a little more closure. Above all, I’m hopeful that Alya recognizes her own strength and finds the confidence to become the person she needs to be. Not for anyone else, but for herself.
A heartfelt, thought-provoking story about vulnerability, mental health, and finding strength within yourself. I’m so glad I listened to this one!
