“Why did she always stress-grow so much kale in her sleep? It was so hard to sell.”
Not gonna lie, this quote had me dying. I always have friends with zero green thumbs asking what they should try growing and my answer is ALWAYS kale. That stuff survives everything. Basically a vegetable cockroach.
Even though this is book 3 in the series, this was my first visit to Everwood Falls. The author says these can be enjoyed as standalones and, unlike some series that absolutely lie about that, this one actually delivers. Sure, there were little hints at previous stories and relationships, but I never felt lost or like I was missing major context. Honestly, it made me curious enough to check out the earlier books because the world was fun and the Audible reviews are strong.
This story follows green witch Sage Summers and Gideon, a merman, high school math teacher, and descendant of Poseidon. Yes… that Poseidon. Sage’s ex Dominick returns and Gideon’s siren ex Ocean also joins in, all while witches are being attacked and tensions between sirens and witches continue escalating toward something dangerous.
I really enjoyed the relationship dynamics throughout the story, especially Sage with her best friend Gwyn (I listened on audio, so forgive me if I butchered the spelling) and Sage with Gideon. Their chemistry felt sweet and natural. Also, anything involving the marmot instantly improved my mood.
My favorite scene was easily the final showdown. It had the tension, emotion, and magical chaos I wanted from the buildup, and it absolutely delivered. And yes, as promised, we get the HEA.
Tiffany Vanlandingham also did a great job with the narration. Her performance kept the characters distinct and easy to connect with, and I’ll definitely be checking out more books she narrates.
