The Boyfriend

The Boyfriend
By Freida McFadden
Narrated by Victoria Connolly & Robb Moreira
⭐⭐⭐⭐

Why did I wait so long to jump on the Freida McFadden train?!? I love championing indie authors, but finding indie audiobooks can be rough and audiobooks are definitely my preferred way to consume books.

I really loved the dual timelines in this one because they kept me constantly questioning where things were headed. And for the FIRST time in a Freida book, I totally fell for the red herrings. I was absolutely convinced things were going in a completely different direction… especially when it came to Slug and Alison.

But honestly? It all came together really well. And somehow, we actually get multiple HEAs.

Now listen… I do not understand dating app culture. Absolutely not. The world is terrifying enough already. Sydney, sweetie, your survival instincts needed some strengthening. Real Kevin was not deserving of all the allowances you gave him.

Also, the fact that Tom managed to date women for MONTHS while dodging basic relationship questions, avoiding friends and family, and apparently never taking a single selfie is honestly impressive in the most alarming way possible. The women brushing off giant red flags had me yelling internally because the women I know would have FBI-level investigations running by date two. And there is simply NO WAY I wouldn’t know the name (first AND last) of my besties beau.

The audiobook narration was fantastic. Victoria Connolly and Robb Moreira handled multiple characters so well that I never struggled to keep track of who was speaking, which makes such a huge difference in a twisty thriller like this.

Super fun listen that kept me guessing almost the entire time. I was questioning everything right up until the toilet bowl discovery… and then it all clicked into place.

Definitely recommend.
