This book hits the ground running with the steam. The spicy scenes are plentiful, but the relationship itself is a slow burn, with neither Javier nor Madeline willing to admit that what they have might be more than just incredible chemistry.

I usually save my thoughts on the narration for the end, but this time I’m starting there. This is a dual narration (I still prefer duet), so it took me a little while to adjust to it. That said, Alexis Paige and Gregory Salinas absolutely DELIVER as their respective lead characters. I actually picked up this audiobook because I loved both of them in the Slaycation series, and they did not disappoint.

One of my favorite parts of the story was Javier’s friendships, Madeline’s dad (he’s the kind of supportive parent we all deserve), and the thoughtful representation of addiction. It also felt refreshing that Javier wasn’t the stereotypical romance hero with a glamorous career. Instead, he’s working two jobs just to get by, and I loved that this didn’t matter to Madeline.

I completely understood why they resisted pursuing a real relationship, but at the same time… they’re adults, and they’re not actually related. If it had been me, I would’ve played the “we hooked up before our parents even met” card. At that point, I’d argue the parents are the ones making things awkward.

I love a good HEA, and with all the pushing and pulling throughout the story, I genuinely wasn’t sure which way this one would go. I’m happy it ended exactly the way I was hoping.

But Javier… my guy… You really don’t have to narrate every thought that pops into your head during sex. 😂
