New Yorker Grace decides that an isolated ranch in the middle-of-nowhere Wyoming is exactly the escape she needs. No cell service. No Wi-Fi. Just peace and quiet.

Or so she thinks.

Calvin rents out his ranch through Airbnb, but it doesn’t take long to realize that both he and Grace are hiding things.

As a reader, I was constantly trying to connect Grace to the missing woman, Calvin’s ex-girlfriend, and every other strange thread the story kept dangling. Why did Grace choose this place? Why does she stay after her car mysteriously stops working? And why do Calvin’s stories never seem to add up?

Calvin has more than a few skeletons in his closet: a basement full of secrets, an obsessive ex, another ex who’s dead, a brother who keeps you on edge… and (gasp!) an irrational hatred of Brussels sprouts.

This is one of those thrillers where you’re constantly questioning everything. Who’s telling the truth? What’s the real motive? And who should you actually be afraid of?

I genuinely loved the ride. The atmosphere, the tension, and the dual perspectives kept me hooked from beginning to end. I honestly loved the story, but I found the ending to be lacking. I found it to be an ending of convenience versus something deeper that definitely could have been woven in. Without any spoilers, it felt like it contradicted what I thought I knew of a character.

Even so, I’d absolutely recommend adding this one to your TBR.

Andi Arndt and Andrew Eiden delivered an excellent performance. Their narration made it easy to slip into both Grace’s and Calvin’s perspectives, and Andrew Eiden continues to be a narrator I really enjoy after Spies, Lies, and Alibis. I’ll definitely be listening to more of Jeneva Rose’s audiobooks featuring this duo.
