This book had a lot going on. And some of it felt completely unnecessary.

The story itself was enjoyable (for the most part) but the many different perspectives and timelines didn’t really add to the story as much as I wanted them to.

Without giving too much of the book away:

I loved Raquel’s character, but all of the stuff about her backstory felt insignificant even though it was like big stuff.

And Grady learning why her father was implicated just wasn’t believable – what person would do that to a friend? Especially someone who doesn’t seem to have many people.

The unfolding of the night the Dixon family went missing felt like a perfect orchestra of chaos – like the Murphy’s Law of a crappy night.

What I loved (and hated) was learning about the town’s history with “witchcraft” and how they came together to destroy a woman to hide the sins of men. Sadly, that part was believable because, well, that’s still a thing.

Overall, an entertaining read, and I have heard really great things about Lisa Gardner, so I will definitely be looking into more of her books.
