Sometimes you’ll find me write something along the lines of “this book has everything I look for in a cozy mystery…” Well, this one did. And more. As ridiculous as it sounds, in addition to being a great mystery, it hated all the things I hate and cared about all the things I do to.
This mystery centers on a religious cult preying mostly on youth, recruiting them at their most vulnerable and turning them against people that truly love them. While Prairie’s team was on the fence about taking the case on, I’m so glad they did. I won’t give any mystery details away, but damn if I don’t hate people that force religion/their way of thinking on others.
As for the characters – there was SO MUCH character development in this book. And I thought I already knew plenty. Families are growing, business is developing, kids are growing up. Prairie is a bit more of a hot-mess-express, but still oh so relatable and endearing – especially for an overwhelmed autism mom like me!
It sounds like this may be the final book in the series which makes me sad, but at the same time I’m happy where things were left.
