Truth be told, this one just wasn’t quite for me. The narration was lovely, but I found myself getting a little lost in the story at times, and unfortunately, it didn’t fully pull me in from beginning to end.

For much of the book, I wasn’t necessarily confused about what was happening, but more about when something was actually going to happen. We follow Jane Baye—a divorcee, former prison pen pal, substitute mom, and parent participant in the Norwegian Heritage Festival—through the ups and downs of her everyday life. We also get glimpses of Truman, Kyle, Tom, and some potential Bundy-esque tendencies, but I never felt like the tension quite reached the level I was expecting. The humor also didn’t land for me as often as I’d hoped based on the blurb.

That said, there were definitely some enjoyable moments, and I really appreciated the author’s writing style. While this particular story didn’t completely click for me, I’m still interested in checking out some of her other books—especially Bummer Camp and I Thought You Said This Would Work. Sometimes a book just isn’t your cup of tea, and that’s okay! 📚💕
