Not gonna lie, I really enjoyed the story, but I also felt incredibly uncomfortable during parts of this listen because of the nature of the crimes involved.

There are children in this story who have been repeatedly abused and manipulated by people in positions of power, and that made this one particularly difficult for me. I can handle some DARK stuff in my thrillers, but anything involving adults taking advantage of kids is always going to hit differently.

That said, Freida absolutely knows how to keep me listening. The story had me questioning motives, trying to figure out who was telling the truth, and waiting for that inevitable Freida McFadden twist to drop. And the final twist in this one was both unsettling and unexpected.

And Leslie Howard! At this point, her voice feels synonymous with Freida’s audiobooks for me. She’s definitely one of my favorite narrators Freida works with, and once again, she nailed the tension and uncertainty of the story. Danny Montooth was a great addition to the performance as well.

Overall, a compelling thriller that kept me hooked, even when the subject matter made me want to crawl out of my skin.
