Every time I see the cover of an Alta Hensley book in this series, I’m tempted to pick it up. So when I saw the ALC available on NetGalley, I knew I had to request it. I didn’t even read what it was about. ๐Ÿ˜‚

The #WhyChoose trope isn’t typically one I reach for, but this one had a unique angle that worked much better for me than it has in past reads. Often, I feel like there’s one person holding all the power in this type of relationship, but here, each character’s past mattered and played an important role in both the relationship and the overall dynamic.

I know the romance is probably going to be what a lot of people love most about this book, but I was way more invested in everything happening around it. The morally gray characters, the seriously bad people, and especially the whole park ranger militia situation were much more my speed.

And then there’s Knox. ๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ

He definitely stole the show for me. Does the man have red flags a-plenty? Absolutely. Does he still somehow have #BookBoyfriend written all over him? Also absolutely.

The audiobook was such a fun listen, and Jillian Macie, Troy Duran, and Rock Engle really helped bring the characters and their very different personalities to life. With a relationship dynamic like this one, having multiple narrators made a huge difference and helped each character feel distinct rather than getting lost in the group.

I jumped into Book 3 without reading the first two, but after this one, I can say with certainty that I’ll be going back to listen to Books 1 and 2 at some point.
