This was such a unique read, and I absolutely loved it!

Two witchy sisters are hired by a wealthy older woman nearing the end of her life to figure out who in her family can actually be trusted. Seems simple enough… except absolutely no one feels trustworthy.

There’s extended family, hired help, police, hidden safes, rotting pumpkins, secret cameras, and plenty more. But the biggest questions remain: Who is playing the long con? Who is just a deplorable human being? And who, if anyone, can actually be trusted?

At any given point, I was pointing the finger at someone different, and that’s exactly what made this so much fun.

The sisters are incredibly different, each dealing with memories of their mother, their belief in their craft, complicated love interests, and their own baggage. Despite their differences, I found them both relatable in completely different ways.

The first half (and then some) really takes its time developing the characters, their relationships, and all the family dynamics surrounding Rose, the matriarch. Then Rose dies mid-séance, her money disappears, and suddenly the finger is pointed firmly at the sisters.

From there, we get a slow unraveling of what really happened, with suspicions shifting as more secrets come to light. I loved that the answers weren’t dumped on us all at once. Everything was revealed piece by piece, keeping me guessing along the way.

The narration by Jess Moran and Helen Laser was great and worked especially well for two sisters with such distinct personalities.

Definitely one for readers who enjoy witchy mysteries, dysfunctional families, suspicious characters, and trying to figure out who is conning whom.
