A New Place, Another Murder

The embodiment of a cozy mystery: amateur sleuth, quirky characters, small-town vibes, and a murder that never gets too dark.

After reading the Cold Creek Mysteries last year, I headed straight into the Sheridan Hendley Mysteries. We have the same FMC and a handful of familiar faces, but Sheridan is starting over in a new location—and apparently murder followed her. 😂 I especially loved Maddie’s involvement and getting to see more of her relationship with Sheridan. The story tackles bullying, drugs, and murder, but keeps everything surface-level enough to maintain that cozy feel.

The biggest adjustment for me was the narrator change. Jeanne Pilgrim Mayo did a perfectly good job, but after spending the Cold Creek series with Alyssa Baumann’s versions of these characters, hearing completely different voices and tones was jarring—some more than others. I definitely missed Baumann’s narration.

I’m curious to see how the new characters develop throughout the series, and I’m crossing my fingers for a few Cold Creek cameos! While you could start here, I’d recommend reading the Cold Creek Mysteries first.
