The Book Club Murders

The Book Club Murders
by Maggie Allswell
⭐️⭐️ – DNF

I’ve never done this before, but this one ended up being a DNF for me. I made it about 35% in, with over five hours remaining, and just couldn’t get invested in the story.

For me, the biggest challenge was the narration. The narrator has a lovely voice, but with such a large cast—especially with multiple male characters—it didn’t quite land. The primary tone is much louder, while the male voices were noticeably quieter, which made them difficult to follow in conversation. I also struggled to distinguish between several of the female voices.

By over a third of the way in, there also wasn’t much investigating happening. The murder itself felt like an afterthought, and I was really hoping for more of a classic cozy mystery focus.

This may be one that works better in print rather than audio.

Thank you to NetGalley and the author for the opportunity to listen to this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
