This book was so intriguing that I literally couldn’t put it down.

It follows Connie over the course of one night, fueled by far too much Chianti and a complete emotional unraveling. While it isn’t told through dual timelines, we get glimpses into her past as both a child and a mother, slowly revealing how she became the person she is today.

The darkness and bitterness within Connie spread like a virus, leaving you to wonder whether the light and the monster are real… or simply reflections of Connie herself. Is there truly something lurking under the bed, or is the real monster much closer to home?

I think we’ve all known a Connie. Someone who struggles to find the good in anything. Someone who sees themselves as the perpetual victim without ever asking, “Could I be the problem?” As the story unfolds, it becomes clear why her ex-husband and son have learned to handle her with kid gloves.

Without spoiling anything, the ending completely reframes everything you thought you knew. It’s one of those books that makes you replay the entire story in your mind once you’ve turned the final page.

Favorite moments:
🖤 Connie’s video chat with her boss. As unlikeable as Connie can be, we’ve all imagined telling that boss exactly what we think.
🖤 Everything involving the H8it app. Absolutely hilarious.
