That was not at all what I expected… it was so much better. I went in expecting a psychological thriller centered around a cold case, but what I got was something that felt completely unique.

This is one of those books that’s difficult to review because I want to gush about it without giving away any spoilers.

I’ll just say that Grandma’s dementia becomes the gateway to something much bigger… but not in the way I expected for the first half of the book. I absolutely loved the role she played in the story, and watching everything unfold was incredibly satisfying.

Anna, our FMC, is one tough cookie, and despite her flaws, I found myself really respecting her.

The narration was some of the best I’ve ever heard. Saskia Maarleveld sounded so familiar that I was convinced I’d listened to her before, but I couldn’t find any titles in my audiobook history. That just means I’ll be adding more of her work to my TBR because she was phenomenal. She had such a range of voices and they were all perfection.

There are quite a few possible triggers with this one, so I’d recommend checking those before diving in.

If you’re looking for a thriller that takes an unexpected path and keeps you guessing without relying on cheap twists, this one is well worth the read.
