After reading other reviews prior to listening to this book, it is clear that this book may not be for everyone – but it was definitely for me.

I am paranoid, obsessive, angry, introverted, socially awkward. Basically, I am the FMC Tamsin. And we are both freelance marketers… Now, if you’ve read the book, I probably shouldn’t admit to all this.

I swear – usually when readers complain about characters in their reviews, those are the characters I resonate most with. That said, I’ve always known I’m a bit unlikeable… an acquired taste if you will.

This book perfectly blends female rage with Scottish folklore. It’s one of those stories that constantly keeps you questioning what’s real, what’s in Tamsin’s head, and who the heck actually knows what’s going on. Apparently, the old guy who helped splice Dolly the Sheep and lost his money on the bridge… that’s who. IYKYK.

I really enjoyed Tamsin’s complete and utter unraveling (that’s not rude to say… right?), especially her search for her neighbor and trying to make sense of everything in her head. The way she ultimately had to come to terms with everything at the end was beautiful and terrifying all in one.

Supporting character appreciation: I loved Rowan. He was exactly what Tamsin needed to keep her (somewhat) grounded… or at least from going completely over the edge.

Mhairi Morrison’s narration was incredibly strong. The combination of Grist’s writing and Morrison’s performance made me believe every ounce of Tamsin’s anger, turmoil, and suffering.

I will 100% be on the lookout for more from this author.
