For me, “The Chateau” blended psychological thriller with crime drama, and crime drama is usually something I tend to avoid. Thankfully, there were more than enough twists, secrets, and questionable people to keep me on the edge of my seat.
I did have a few more unanswered questions than I typically like. I NEED to know what happened to everyone and exactly how everything played out! Of course, I’ve also created my own perfect scenario for what happens after that ending, and I’m pretty sure most women would agree with me. ๐
Now, feminine ragers, UNITE for this one. Were there ANY men in this book who weren’t cheating on their partners?! Apparently not. These men were cheating, deceiving, lying, and generally deserving of whatever was coming their way… or whatever already came their way. ๐
I really appreciated the way everything eventually tied together. Were some parts completely feasible or probable? Maybe not. Did I care? Absolutely not. IT’S FICTION, PEOPLE!!! Sometimes I just want to embrace the chaos and enjoy the ride.
Overall, this was a good thriller and one I’m glad I listened to. It had plenty of twists, a whole lot of terrible behavior, and enough feminine rage to keep me invested.
๐ง Narration Appreciation: Christine Lakin always delivers. She has this dry yet strong female voice that I really resonate with, and it worked especially well for this story. Her performance added just the right amount of edge without ever feeling overdone.
