An engaging mystery that quietly plants its clues before turning up the tension and delivering a satisfying payoff.
“The Same House” kept me wondering what was really going on and where the story was ultimately headed. Cody Wayne Morris gives us plenty of clues early on, but you definitely need to be paying attention. Rather than sending us down endless rabbit holes, the story gives us pieces and lets us build the possibilities in our own minds.
The second half was where this one really shined for me. The tension picked up, things began unraveling, and we finally started getting answers. I flew through this portion because I needed to know how everything connected.
I did wish there had been more tension in the first half, particularly surrounding Andrew and the safety protocols his family followed. If he had blocked out so much of his past, I wanted more insight into why they knew they needed to keep moving and exactly what they believed they were protecting themselves from. Digging into that a little more could have added another layer of unease early on.
I really appreciated how everything came together in the end. Without getting anywhere near spoiler territory, I’ll just say there was something VERY satisfying about watching certain people get exactly what was coming to them. 😏
